Reconstructive Surgery
Plastic Surgery is a branch of medicine that is dedicated to changing the appearance of an individual. The specialty can be structured further as reconstructive surgery and cosmetic surgery.
Reconstructive Surgery: This is done to correct anomalies in the face or other parts of the body. It may include birth defects like cleft palate or lips, deformities in the ear or other parts of the body, burn injuries, or injuries caused due to dog bites, and most commonly burn injuries. In some cases, it is also done after treatment of certain medical conditions like breast cancer where the female undergoes mastectomy and then has to have a breast reconstruction done.
Cosmetic Surgery: Also known by the name of aesthetic treatment is basically done to reshape or alter a specific body part, the shape of which an individual is not happy with. The most common example of a cosmetic surgery is nose reshaping. Some of the other procedures that come under cosmetic surgery include breast augmentation and liposuction. Cosmetic Surgery also covers certain nonsurgical treatments to include laser treatments for removal of unwanted hairs.
